The Vermont Health Exploration Resources & Opportunities (HERO) program provides year-round extracurricular science enrichment and career exploration for high school students interested in health care and health science. During the upcoming weeks, we will be sharing various posts by HERO mentors that examine and explore different health care careers. This week’s blog post is shared by HERO mentor, Clara Wyman.
“Hey HEROs! We have made it to Wednesday which means we are halfway through the week. As our program is slowly coming to an end, we hope you have all gained some valuable knowledge and maybe even some motivation to drive you forward. Lizzie and I will continue these career spotlights until the program comes to a close so I hope you have found some new interesting careers. Until then we will carry on. Today I am continuing our spotlight on Medical Research by taking a look at Epidemiology. This field has become increasingly more visible in the last couple of years so it may be more familiar to some of you.
To begin, we have a video featuring an epidemiologist who describes the highlights of her job: Click Here!
This page covers an in-depth look into the specifics of this career including job outlook, technology, and educational requirements: Click Here!
This link also has some similar information but allows you to search employment trends by Zip Code which I found to be super interesting: Click Here!
I found this specialty super interesting and I hope you did too. Be sure to check out the VTHC social media pages and Virtual Job Shadow for more information: VJS, VTHC, Facebook, Instagram“
