Dr. Martin Luther King said, “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and inhuman.” Many Vermonters still face challenges to accessing equitable health care because of language barriers, transportation barriers, cultural barriers, and bias. Community Health Workers help patients overcome these barriers to get the health resources and care they need when they need it. Community health workers are important members of the healthcare team. They build relationships with the people they serve so they can provide culturally responsive and effective information and support.
